Ezekiel Cooper
1826 to 1858
Founded the house in a Salem countinghouse, brokering pickling stock from New England farms to the brining yards on Derby Wharf. Recorded the first ledger entry: forty barrels of Boston Pickling, sold to a Marblehead salt-fish house, paid in eight days.

Theodore Cooper
1858 to 1891
Survived the Civil War years brining for the Union Army quartermaster. Negotiated the first contracts west of the Hudson when the railroads opened the Ohio cucumber belt. The house ledgers list eleven varieties by 1880.

Margaret Cooper-Hale
1891 to 1929
First woman to hold the house. Modernized the brining stock grading system into the No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 schema still in use today. Added the Polk County, Wisconsin, and Berrien County, Michigan, contract grower programs.

Theodore Hale II
1929 to 1968
Held the house through the Depression on consignment terms with growers and an agreement with three Boston pickle plants to forward-buy at floor prices. Added the National Pickling open-pollinated line in 1925, the year after USDA released it.

Eleanor Hale
1968 to 2003
Brought the house into greenhouse cucumbers and added the Leamington, Ontario, and Westland, Netherlands, networks. Opened the Houston brine drum facility in 1981 to supply the southern pickle plants. Stood up the first electronic ordering pilot with three retailers in 1992.

2003 to present
Current. Added the Sinaloa Persian and Mexican Sour Gherkin networks. Migrated the legacy mainframe order entry to a modern ERP. Maintained the family rule that every contract harvest is driven and inspected before signing.
